Hampton is subdivision of Towson located just north of Baltimore City, Maryland. This community with 635 homes situated on lots up to several acres enjoys the serenity of a park like setting, with an abundance of wildlife and large mature trees. Yet this country neighborhood is less than five minutes from the center of Towson and 15-25 minutes from downtown Baltimore. ![]() The community is anchored by its principle landmark, the Hampton
Mansion and National Historic Site . Built in 1790 by Captain Charles Ridgely,
the Hampton Mansion is a Georgian style home that was once a working
plantation and industrial site. In 1929 the Hampton Development Company
was formed and the land around the Hampton Mansion site was subdivided,
creating the Hampton Community. The Hampton Mansion remained in
the Ridgely family until it became a National Park in 1946. Most homes in the neighborhood are subject
to protective covenants that preserve the quality-of-life and distinct
character of Hampton. The covenants prohibit subdivision of lots,
limit development to single-family dwellings and set certain legal restrictions
on lot size, setbacks, fencing, and property use. Find out
more about the history of development and our protective covenants in
the
"Understanding Your Covenants" section
of the Hampton Community web pages.
